What is a Safety Valve?

You’ve just stepped under your nice hot shower when someone else in the house either turns on a faucet or flushes the toilet; suddenly the temperature of your shower plummets to freezing cold or becomes scalding hot – leaving you with soap in your eyes as you try to manually adjust the temperature back to a comfortable level.  Safety valves prevent the temperature shocks associated with accidental scalding and falls in the shower.
